On the outer barrier of Charleston, on the tip of the Intracoastal waterway, is elegant Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina. This highly coveted gem of the South whose dreamy ambiance and beachy soul have been well preserved throughout the growth of the Holy City.

Beaches
The best part about Sullivan’s Island off the coast of South Carolina are the beaches. The island is broken up by “stations” and patrons soon discover which station best fits their needs:
- Station 18, 21, 22: Favorite Beach Spots
- Station 28.5: Great to watch windsurfers
- Breach Inlet: On the South side of the island, this is a favorite walking spot at low tide to see dolphins playing, birds feeding, and to collect shells, but beware! No swimming is allowed here.
- “The Rocks”: On the North side of the island, behind Ft. Moultrie. This is a favorite walking spot to see dolphins playing, birds feeding, and to collect shells, but beware no swimming is allowed here.
Middle “Main” Street
The main road running through Sullivan’s Island is Middle Street, and it is loaded with incredible restaurants, lounges, and shops.
- Dunleavy’s Pub: Sullivan’s Island longest run, most authentic Irish pub just celebrated its 27th year, and it’s not going away anytime soon.
- The Obstinate Daughter: Serving eclectic and polished, locally sourced plates.
- Poe’s Tavern: When a juicy burger, an ice cold beer, and an outdoor people watching venue is in order, this is the place to go!
- The Co-Op: Grab and go sandwiches, iced coffee, and World Famous Frosé!
- Beardcat’s Sweet Shop: Offering house made gelato, cappuccinos, and grab and go sandwiches.
Sight-Seeing
Since Sullivan’s Island is only 3.3 miles long, it is easy to bike around the island and see all the sites!
- Sullivan’s Island Lighthouse: Commonly referred to as the “Charleston Light” this is a distinct and awesome landmark to check out, and perfect for photo ops.
- Fort Moultrie: As one of the oldest forts still standing on the eastern seaboard, this is a must see.
- J. Marshall Stith Park: The perfect playground to rest in the shade and let your kids run free.
- Sullivan’s Island Nature Trail and Thompson Park at Breach Inlet: These are the most scenic areas on the island to see nature at its best.
