Downtown Charleston

The quintessential depiction of southern richness, high-quality hospitality, captivating character.

Welcome to Downtown Charleston

Downtown Charleston. The quintessential depiction of southern richness, high-quality hospitality, captivating character, historic elegance, and timeless class.

The city is an icon. Whispers from memories past meander through the market and mix with the giggles and laughter echoing from the Battery or Waterfront Park. The choral clip-clop from carriage horses sings songs from colonial times while the sweet sea breeze brushes the shoulders of outdoor diners as they brunch on shrimp and grits, she-crab soup, and tall glasses of Planter’s Punch

It’s not hard to understand why Charleston has been named the best city in the world for two years (and counting). Downtown Charleston is more than just a city; it’s a lifestyle.

History

Originally founded as Charlestown in 1670 and across the Ashley River, Downtown Charleston cultivated into an area rich in antiquity and stories of yesteryear. Tour the city market, Rainbow Row, the Battery, Colonial Lake, Charleston Museum, the Olde Exchange and Provost Dungeon, Dock Street Theatre, or one of the many churches which helped the town gain the Holy City moniker.

Restaurants

Downtown Charleston is a mecca for fine dining. Stick w/ the tried and true local favorites like Anson, 82 Queen, Peninsula Grill, Poogan’s Porch, or Hanks, or give the “newer” favs like FIG, Husk, Le Farfalle, Chez Nous, or 167 Raw a try.

Shopping

There is nothing better than spending the morning shopping for unique Charleston trinkets and locally made artisan gifts in the city market, cruising through the unique boutiques and lunching on King Street then seizing the last of the day with an afternoon mocktail or glass of bubbles in the Thoroughbred Club at the glorious Belmond Hotel. Pure perfection.

Nightlife

In Downtown Charleston, when the sun goes down, it’s time to get out and socialize. Whether you’re looking for a dive bar to watch the game, a nice social club, a rooftop view, a beer and a burger, or a flight of the best beers on tap, there is something for everybody in Chucktown.
